The Andrews Labor Government’s new laws to help stamp out bad behaviour in short-stay accommodation have passed Victorian Parliament. Landlords are urged to routinely check the age of smoke alarms within their properties, as the Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) reminds investors and their Property Managers that residential smoke alarms only have lifespan of 10 years. Failure rates for smoke alarms increase with age, regardless of power source or type of alarm.
